Loews Orpheum 2
168 E. 86th
Upper East Side
(demolished 1991)
The Loews Orpheum opened in October of 1913 and featured a Kimball 2 manual rank organ. In 1968, the theatre was twinned with the 995 seat Orpheum and the 599 seat Cine’ 3rd Ave. It was re-named the Loews Orpheum in Dec. of 1979 where it remained until it was demolished in 1991. Two years later the Loews Orpheum 7 opened on the same site where it remains today as the AMC Orpheum 7. Its most recent review says: “The seating is a bit tight, but the popcorn is yummy.”
