Cinema Studio

1931 Broadway

Upper West Side

(demolished)

Opened in 1919 as the Arcade Theatre.  Badly damaged late 1940 fire, it reopened and was renamed the Cinema Studio in 1950.  To compete, it divided it’s 560 single seat theater in Dec. of 1950.  It showed numerous first-run art house attractions until it Closed in March of 1990.  It was replaced by a Barnes and Noble Bookstore which is now long gone too. While researching this theatre, I could only find 2 photos, but Discovered 2 other glimpses from a short film clip where it was briefly seen in the background.
