Regency

1987 Broadway

Upper West Side

(closed March 1999)

A popular Upper West Side movie house, the Alden Theatre opened in 1931.  68 years later it lost its battle to show major “studio” films after the well-designed megaplex Lowes Lincoln Square came along in 1994.   The Regency Theatre was demolished and replaced by a Victoria’s Secret.  The Regency was a huge neighborhood loss for this “true Manhattan institution.” 1 screen, 600 seats.
