The Trans Lux
85th Street
Upper East Side
(demolished)
The Trans-Lux 85th St. Theatre opened in 1937 as a newsreel theatre. It hosted an annual “Charlie Chaplin film festival.” Next door, the Luncheonette next was a Monday ritual for Richard Shepard and his mom when he was a young boy. They always had the tuna salad sandwich special for $0.99. It closed in the mid 1980’s and was demolished in the 1990’s.
